OKLAHOMA CITY—Oklahoma State's women's basketball team saw its season come to a close in the first round of the Big 12 tournament with a 76-66 loss against Kansas in Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City on Friday night. Â
In the first, freshman Ja'Mee Asberry hit the first basket for the Cowgirls with a jumper off the dribble, but the Jayhawks used an 11-0 run over 4:07 to make it 13-2. KU held OSU 3-15 shooting in quarter and took a 23-8 lead into the second quarter.
The Jayhawks hit an early jumper in the second quarter, but was answered by sophomore Vivian Gray with one of her own. Halfway through the quarter the Cowgirls used 14-2 run to cut the deficit to six-point lead at 32-26 in favor of the Jayhawks. After two free throws from Gray the Cowgirls trailed 35-28 entering halftime.
Sophomore Braxtin Miller got it going scoring the first nine points for the Cowgirls, but the Jayhawks extended the lead to 55-44. In the last 2:18 of the quarter, OSU went on a 9-0 run to bring it within two points at 55-53 going into the final quarter.
KU went on a 4-0 run early in the fourth quarter, but OSU quickly erased that with one of its own and was able to get it within one point at 59-58. That was the closest the Cowgirls would get, as the Jayhawks were able to slowly increase the lead the rest of the way.
Gray finished with a game-high 25 points followed by Miller who scored 16 points. Junior Clitan de Sousa went 4-4 from the field and tallied 10 points along with five rebounds off the bench.
