Cowgirls Drop Midweek Matchup at Tulsa
March 20, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
TULSA, Okla. – The No. 21 Oklahoma State softball team struggled in a midweek matchup at Tulsa, as the Cowgirls fell to their in-state rival, 3-0, Wednesday at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
OSU (21-8; 0-0 Big 12) is now 6-3 during its 13-game road swing, which began March 8 with a 3-0 shutout win over No. 24 Oregon in Eugene.
Samantha Clakley handled starting duties for Oklahoma State in the circle against Tulsa.
She was electric in the first half of Wednesday's game, as she held the Golden Hurricane without a hit during her first 4.1 innings of work. Tulsa racked up three-straight one-out hits after that though, capped by a three-run home run to left center that busted the game open.
OSU finally got its own first hit on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, as Samantha Show lined a long first-pitch single to left center as the first batter of the inning. That was the only hit the Cowgirls mustered off of TU starter Chenise Delce in seven innings.
Late in the game, the Cowgirls shifted the lineup a bit in an effort to try and spark some offense, bringing in freshman Mady Lohman for Michaela Richbourg in the sixth inning. Lohman, who missed the first five weeks of the season after a preseason wrist injury, battled hard in her first collegiate at-bat, but was ultimately retired on strikes in the top of the seventh.
OSU will look to bounce back this weekend as the Cowgirls open Big 12 play with a three-game road series against Baylor. First pitch of the weekend is set for 6:30 p.m. CT Friday night at Getterman Stadium.
