Cowgirl Softball Ranked in Top 20 for Sixth-Straight Week
March 19, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team held onto its spot in the top 20 for a sixth-straight week after a scrappy weekend in the southeast, as the Cowgirls sit at No. 21 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 17 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 this week.
OSU's six-week run in the top 20 is the longest for a Cowgirl squad since a seven-week stretch that began Feb. 18, 2011. The Pokes have also now been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 18 of the last 20 weeks, with a No. 14 ranking in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 on March 12 marking the program's highest ranking since finishing the 2011 season at No. 8.
The Cowgirls are currently 21-7 and coming off a sixth-straight weekend where they finished above .500. OSU went 3-2 last week, defeating Central Arkansas, Samford and Memphis, but fell twice to Ole Miss, which snapped the Cowgirls' 10-game winning streak. The 10-game winning run was the second longest of the Kenny Gajewski era, trailing only a 12-game unbeaten stretch in March 2018.
OSU has four tough games on the schedule this week, beginning with a Wednesday-night trip to Tulsa for a midweek matchup against the Golden Hurricane. After that, the Cowgirls head to Waco, Texas, to open up Big 12 play with a three-game series at Baylor.
