STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team continued to continued its climb toward the top 15 in this week's rankings, as the Cowgirls reside at No. 18 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 14 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
It is the fifth straight week that the Cowgirls have held a top-20 ranking in at least one of the national polls - the longest stretch by a Cowgirl squad since a seven-week run that began Feb. 18, 2011. OSU has also now been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 17 of the last 19 weeks, with Tuesday's ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 ranking marking the program's best standing since finishing the 2011 season at No. 8.
The Cowgirls are off to an 18-5 start to the 2019 season, which is the program's best 23-game record since also posting an 18-5 mark to start the 2011 season. 10 of the Pokes' 18 victories have come against teams either ranked or receiving votes, with five of those coming against top-25 foes (No. 13 Kentucky, No. 13 Arizona State and three wins at No. 24 Oregon).
Last week, Oklahoma State extended its winning streak to a season-best eight games with four combined wins over Wichita State and then-No. 24 Oregon. The Cowgirls opened the week with a Wednesday night shutout of the Shockers in Stillwater before taking all three games from the Ducks in Eugene over the weekend.
OSU has five games on the docket this week, beginning with a Wednesday matchup against Central Arkansas in Stillwater. After that, the Cowgirls hit the road again, traveling to Oxford, Mississippi, for three combined games against Ole Miss and Samford before heading to Memphis, Tennessee, to meet the Tigers on their home turf Monday night.
