13 OSU Student-Athletes Earn Highest Big 12 Academic Honor

STILLWATER – A total of 13 Oklahoma State student-athletes were honored as recipients of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12 Conference announced today.
Headlining OSU's group of 2019 honorees is women's tennis standout Sofia Blanco. In addition to this recognition, Blanco's career résumé includes All-America status on the court, where she was an NCAA doubles runner-up in 2018 and in the classroom, where she was an Academic All-American in 2018.
Coached by Larry Sanchez, the Cowgirl equestrian team produced five of OSU's 13 total honorees. The equestrian contingent includes sophomore Megan Donald, senior Molly Dunn, sophomore Stephanie Helsen and seniors Paige Kemper and Sarah Miller.
The Cowgirl soccer program also had multiple honorees in junior Julia Lenhardt and senior Laurene Tresfield.
Other OSU sports represented include men's basketball (junior Trey Reeves), baseball (junior Jacob Ruder), men's track and field (senior Tanner Green), women's track and field (senior Chelsea Jarvis) and women's golf (senior Chih-Min Chen).
OSU's 13 recipients of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award this year marks the second-highest total achieved by OSU since the award was launched in 2011. The only higher total was last year's 14.
The Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award is the Big 12's highest academic honor. In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. The honoree, which can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.
