Oklahoma State logs seventh straight top-30 national finish in Learfield Directors’ Cup standings
July 01, 2026 | General
STILLWATER – For the seventh year in a row and for the 12th time in the last 13 years, Oklahoma State placed among the top 30 nationally in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings.
OSU finished 28th in 2025-26, which was good for second in the Big 12.
The Learfield Directors' Cup honors institutions and evaluates success in all sports. The Directors' Cup allows athletic departments to measure the success of each sports program evenly and does not weigh the success in one sport above the success in another.
Because Oklahoma State does not sponsor women's volleyball and does not get credit for its performance in equestrian since it is not an NCAA sport, it has only 17 sports eligible for Learfield Directors' Cup scoring, while most other schools count points from 19 sports. Operating with a two-sport handicap, OSU has still finished in the top three of the Big 12 each of the last eight years.
Since the 2020-21 academic year, Oklahoma State's average finish in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings is 23.67, a mark that leads the Big 12. BYU is second at 28.17.
Oklahoma State's 2025-26 performance was bolstered by an NCAA championship from the men's cross country team, an NCAA runner-up finish from wrestling and additional top-10 finishes from women's golf (fifth) and softball (ninth). While the equestrian team does not count toward OSU's Learfield Directors' Cup standings total, the Cowgirls advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCEA Championships. Additional top-20 national placements from OSU in 2025-26 came from women's cross country (12th), men's outdoor track and field (16th), women's basketball (17th) and baseball (17th).
OSU's average national finish of 24.80 during Chad Weiberg's five-year tenure as athletic director marks the second-best five-year stretch for Oklahoma State since the Learfield Directors Cup came into existence in 1993-94.
Through the 2025-26 academic year, Oklahoma State ranks sixth nationally with 55 NCAA team championships. OSU has produced 206 NCAA individual champions, more than 1,500 All-Americans and 346 team conference championships all-time. Since the league was formed in 1996-97, OSU has won 105 Big 12 Conference team titles.
