December 05, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard was named one of five national finalists for the 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, it was announced Thursday by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The finalists include two quarterbacks, two running backs and one defensive end, as Hubbard is joined by LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.
A sophomore, Hubbard finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the FBS in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards, all-purpose yards per game, yards after contact (via Pro Football Focus) and many more categories.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta, native has already been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Doak Walker Award. His 1,936 rushing yards this season mark the most ever for a Canadian player and rank as the No. 2 single-season rushing total in OSU history, trailing only Barry Sanders' historic 1988 Heisman season.
Hubbard would become the second Cowboy to win the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, as Sanders also received it in 1988.
The 2019 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the 130 FBS head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on Dec. 12 during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN SportsCenter. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation's 53rd annual national awards banquet on Jan. 18 at Yale University's Lanman Center.
