Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Oklahoma State took a few days off to celebrate the holidays before returning to Stillwater to host Southeastern Louisiana in its final tune-up game prior to the start of Big 12 play. OSU is 4-0 all-time against the Lions, and in the Big 12 era the Cowboys are 21-2 in their final tune-up games before league play. Oklahoma State also has a 20-game win streak against teams from the Southland Conference. The Cowboys are eagerly awaiting the return of do-it-all point guard Isaac Likekele, who practiced with the team for the first time since earning NIT Season Tip-Off All-Tournament team honors.
• On the Air
The game will appear on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, the digital platform that serves as the home for thousands of live Big 12 and ESPN events, on-demand content and original programing. ESPN+ is available via the ESPN App, ESPN.com or espnplus.com, as well as on most major mobile and connected TV platforms for just $4.99 per month. The announcing team of Mike Wolfe, Bryndon Manzer and Jessica Morrey will have the ESPN+ call. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have Cowboy Radio Network call from historic Eddie Sutton Court.
• The Ice Man Returns
For the last four games, Oklahoma State has been without the services of Isaac "Ice" Likekele - the nation's only player averaging at least 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.9 steals per game. Likekele, a bullying point guard, sets the tone on both ends of the floor as OSU's leading scorer (13.7 ppg on 56.9 fg%) and best perimeter defender (2.9 spg leads the Big 12). The Cowboys were 7-0 with Likekele in the lineup.
• 1,000-200-100 Club
With his ability to effectively play the 1-4 positions, Lindy Waters III has been the key to OSU's versatility for years. Now, the senior is starting to enter some lofty company that speaks to that versatility. With 976 career points, 207 assists and 99 steals, Waters is about to become just the 16th OSU player in the 1,000-200-100 club (Marcus Smart and Markel Brown in 2014 were the last to join). Of the 15 players currently in the club, only Darwyn Alexander (1988-92) and Randy Rutherford (1992-95) can top Waters' career 41.6 career 3-point percentage. Waters is just 24 points shy of becoming the 42nd Cowboy to reach the 1,000-point plateau, and his 207 assists and 99 steals rank 28th and 30th in school history, respectively.
• Final Tune-Up
Sunday's game against SLU is Oklahoma State's final tune-up before starting Big 12 play at Texas Tech on Jan. 4. The Cowboys have won their previous six final tune-up games, and are 21-2 in the Big 12 era (1996-97 to present) in these games.
• The Series With Southeastern Louisiana
This is the fifth hardwood meeting between Oklahoma State and Southeastern Louisiana, and OSU is 4-0 overall and 2-0 inside GIA against the Lions. The average margin of victory in the four previous meetings is 22.5 points. The first meeting in the series came at the 1983 Orange Bowl Classic in Miami, Florida. These two programs last met on Nov. 14, 2014 in Stillwater.
• Cowboy Connections
Patrick Schulte, a former Oklahoma State video coordinator under Brad Underwood in 2016-17, is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Lions. Schulte also worked for Underwood and alongside current OSU head coach Mike Boynton for two seasons at Stephen F. Austin.
• Against The Southland Conference
The Cowboys are 62-9 (.873) all-time against the current members of the Southland, including a 20-game win streak dating back to a Dec. 5, 2005 loss to Northwestern State in GIA (68-64). OSU is 49-4 (.924) against the Southland in Stillwater. Southeastern Louisiana is the only Southland Conference opponent on the schedule for Oklahoma State in 2019-20.
