Cowgirl Tennis Ends Play At The ITA National Fall Championships

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team finished its tournament run in the 2019 ITA National Fall Championships on Friday in both singles and doubles play. No. 67 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat competed in singles and doubles play with her partner, Dariya Detkovskaya.
No. 67 Thamchaiwat advanced to the round of 16 by winning her match on Thursday against No. 46 Katarina Kozarov of Furman, 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 32, the Cowgirl would face off against the defending NCAA singles champion and third-ranked player in the country, Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami. Thamchaiwat would put up an incredible fight but ultimately fell to Perez-Somarriba in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, to end her tournament run.
Thamchaiwat would continue play on Friday in doubles with Detkovskaya. Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya competed in the second round of consolation play after defeating Ahmeir Kyle and Emily Thomas of Xavier on Thursday. In Friday's match, the Cowgirls were forced to retire to North Carolina's No. 20 Sara Daavettila and Alexa Graham in the second set after falling behind, 6-3, 2-1.
Friday's pair of losses completes play for the Cowgirls in the 2019 ITA National Fall Championships. OSU will resume play again in the spring beginning with matches against Abilene Christian and Wichita State in Stillwater, Okla. on Jan. 11.
