Cowgirl Tennis Begins Play At The ITA National Fall Championships

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma State women's tennis is being represented this week at the 2019 ITA National Fall Championships by four different Cowgirls. Singles and doubles play began for Lisa Marie Rioux, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, Ayumi Miyamoto and Dariya Detkovskaya on Wednesday.
Entering the National Fall Championships, Oklahoma State had more women selected to the main draw than any other school in the country with three individuals selected to singles play and two doubles teams selected.
No. 43 Lisa Marie Rioux got play started with a win over Tennessee's No. 89 Kaitlin Staines, 6-4, 6-3 in the first round. No. 67 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat continued the winning ways for OSU with a victory over No. 88 Carolyn Campana of Wake Forest, 6-3, 6-4. The only singles loss of the first round came when Dariya Detkovskaya lost to No. 98 Rebeka Stolmar of Central Florida, 6-2, 6-1.
Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto teamed up in doubles play and logged a win in their first match over Izumi Asano and En-Pei Huang of UNLV in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Thamchaiwat and Rioux faced off against No. 31 Rebeka Stolmar and Marie Mattel of UCF in doubles and lost, 6-4, 7-5.
Following their wins, Rioux and Thamchaiwat will now advance to the round of 32 on Thursday. Following her loss, Detkovskaya will compete in the consolation draw on Thursday. Doubles play will also continue in the next round for Rioux and Miyamoto, while Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat will play in consolation.
