Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Oklahoma State put the clamps down on Charleston and rode a 7-of-10 3-point shooting night from Thomas Dziagwa to a 73-54 win, which is OSU's largest margin of victory in a true road game since 2013-14. The victory was the cherry on top of a day that included the signing of Cade Cunningham, the nation's top player, and Rondel Walker, a national top-50 recruit from OKC. The Cowboys will now turn their attention to a battled-tested Yale squad, which has already taken two road opponents to overtime this season. Sunday's game will be OSU's N7 game, which will feature turquoise uniforms and special performances in honor of the state's unique Native American culture.
• On the Air
The game will appear on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, the new digital platform that will serve as the home for thousands of live Big 12 and ESPN events, on-demand content and original programing. ESPN+ is available via the ESPN App, ESPN.com, as well as on most major mobile and connected TV platforms for just $4.99 per month. The announcing team of Mike Wolfe, Bryndon Manzer and Jessica Morrey will have the ESPN+ call. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have Cowboy Radio Network call from historic Eddie Sutton Court.
• Lock-Down Cowboys
Oklahoma State has held all three of its opponents under 40 percent shooting and ranks 18th nationally in effective field goal percentage defense according to KenPom. Led by the Big 12's top shot blocker, Yor Anei, the Cowboys rank third nationally in block percentage at 24.2 percent, which has allowed OSU's guards to extend their pressure on the perimeter. As a result, the Cowboys have held their opponents to 22.5 percent shooting from 3-point, which ranks 20th nationally.
• N7 Day / Waters Givaway
Sunday's game will be OSU's annual N7 celebration in which the program pays tribute to the Native American heritage of Oklahoma. The Cowboys will wear their special Nike N7 uniforms and gear, and the game will feature Native performers at halftime. Following the game, Cowboy senior Lindy Waters (Kiowa/Cherokee) and his family will hold an Honoring & Giveaway ceremony on the court. This Honoring & Giveaway tradition goes back generations in their culture, and in the ceremony Waters will give gifts and honor those members of the Oklahoma State family that have helped him in his journey. OSU President Burns Hargis, athletics director Mike Holder, Mike Boynton and many members of the Cowboy basketball staff will be honored and receive a gift from the Waters family.
• Scouting Yale
Yale, which is coming off the 2019 Ivy League Tournament championship, is a battled tested squad with a pair of overtime road games already on its resume. The Bulldogs went to Stony Brook for the season opener and pulled off a 74-69 overtime win, then traveled across the country and took San Francisco to overtime before falling, 84-79. Paul Atkinson was electric in both games, going off for 26 points and 22 points, respectively. The 6-10 forward is averaging 20.0 points and 5.7 rebounds on 58.8 percent shooting so far this season. Azar Swain is averaging 12.0 points and Jordan Bruner is just shy of a double-double average at 10.7 points and 9.7 boards.
• The Series With Yale
This will be just the second meeting between Oklahoma State and Yale, and the first since the 2002-03 season opener. In that game, OSU's Melvin Sanders scored 18 points to help lead the Cowboys to a 68-59 victory. Andre Williams posted his ninth career double-double with 10 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the Cowboys got double-digit scoring from five players. Ahead by two with just under 14 minutes to play, OSU went on a 17-4 run to open up a 59-44 lead.
• Leading The Bulldogs
With 312 career wins, James Jones is the all-time winningest coach in Yale basketball history and the longest tenured coach in the Ivy League. In his 21st season at Yale, Jones has won four Ivy League championships - 2002, 2015, 2016, 2019 - and took the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament twice. He is a two-time Ivy League Coach of the Year.
