Gajewski, Cowgirls Sign Four in 2020 Recruiting Class
November 13, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball coach Kenny Gajewski strengthened the future of Cowgirl softball Wednesday with the signing of four players in OSU's 2020 recruiting class.
The class, made up of Katelynn Carwile, Scotland David, Savannah Evans and Avery Hobson, will be the newest addition to the Cowgirl family. All four players appear in Extra Inning's Class of 2020 top-200 player ranking, with Hobson leading the class and placing in the Extra Elite 100 player rankings.
"We're really happy with this year's group," Gajewski said. "We're excited about what this class has to offer."
Carwile, the first to commit in this year's class, is a highly-recruited two-way player from Purcell, Oklahoma. Gajewski praises her as one of the best players in the state, if not the best. Aside from the ability to pitch, hit and run at a high level, Carwile impressed Cowgirls' head coach with the edge that she plays with.
"She is a competitive kid like nobody else, it's one of the things that attracted us to her," Gajewski said. "It fits our blue-collar mentality here at OSU. She is someone who, if she continues to improve, can walk right in here and play."
Next up, David is a speedy left-handed hitting outfielder from Ponte Vedra, Florida. Coach says she will be a joy to watch, especially when she flies around the bases after sending one to the gaps.
"We are excited to add her to this year's class," Gajewski said. "She is a plus defender and someone who just continues to improve offensively."
Hobson, from Belton Missouri, tops out in the rankings for the Cowgirls this year at #64. She has already been recognized by Gajewski as one of the fastest player OSU has ever had. With her speed, Hobson will look to wreak havoc on the basepaths while utilizing her range in the outfield defensively.
"She is a leadoff-type kid, slapper, bunter, but just someone who can really run," Gajewski said. "I look for her to make an impact here pretty quick as well."
Evans, a product of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, rounds out this year's class. She is a tall right-handed pitcher who can run and hit as well.
"She has got a work ethic that's as good as anybody's here," Gajewski said. "It has really been starting to click for her as a pitcher and she will continue to improve at the plate."
All four of this year's signees are speedsters who can contribute on the field in several different ways, a trait that Cowgirls' head coach is proud of and can't wait to utilize.
"This class may be the fastest class I've ever had, maybe the fastest class in the country," Gajewski said. "The athleticism they have and the ability to play multiple position is going to be huge for us. These are going to be players that we can plug and play."
All four of Wednesday's signees will join Oklahoma State next fall.
