STILLWATER - Oklahoma State capped its weekend with a second-straight win in conference play Sunday as the 25th-ranked Cowgirls defeated Kansas State, 2-1, at Neal Patterson Stadium.
Â
The Cowgirls netted a pair of goals early in the second half over a 1:57 span to propel them to the win as they improved to 9-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in Big 12 play. OSU is now 7-0-1 on its home field this season.
Â
Grace Yochum and Gabriella Coleman provided the goal scoring for OSU, while goalies Hannah Warner and Dani Greenlee combined for five saves.
Â
K-State (2-9-2, 0-4-0) tallied the opening goal of the match in the 25th minute when Katie Cramer fired a 16-yard shot to the far post off a Bailey Nemechek assist to put the visitors up, 1-0.
Â
The Cowgirls nearly equalized in the 42nd minute when Olyvia Dowell found Coleman in the box, but Coleman's shot was saved by KSU goalkeeper Rachel Harris.
Â
Down a goal, OSU came out with a flurry following intermission and recorded the equalizer just over two minutes into the second half. Hannah Webb delivered a ball from just outside the box that Dowell flicked with her back heel to a charging Yochum, who slid in and delivered a shot past Harris to make the score 1-1. The goal was Yochum's sixth of the season.
Â
Less than two minutes later, the Cowgirls scored what proved to be the game winner when Coleman took a pass from Webb, spun around her defender and fired a left-footed shot to the far post to give OSU a 2-1 advantage.
Â
Warner came up big in the 60th minute as she charged off her line to make a diving save on a shot by Cramer. Warner was injured on the play and forced to leave the game; Greenlee would finish the game in goal for the Cowgirls.
Â
The Wildcats held a 15-14 advantage in shots in the match and had four attempts, as well as two corner kicks, over the final 30 minutes. But Greenlee and the OSU defense would rise to the occasion to keep the visitors from recording the equalizer.
Â
The Cowgirls return to action Friday with their lone game of the week when they travel to Austin to take on Texas.
