Cowboys Discuss TCU
October 29, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select Oklahoma State football players met with media Tuesday to discuss the team's upcoming conference home matchup against TCU this Saturday in Stillwater. Some of their comments:
Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez
On what he's excited about going against TCU:
"Definitely facing some speed and bigger players and just some good competition."
How his experience at safety helped him get the pick-six at Iowa State:
"Just reading the quarterback. It was a good call by Coach Jim Knowles, bluffing the blitz and coming back to read the quarterback."
On the reactions from his teammates and what it's been like since the play:
"They all gave me congratulations and I told them thank you. It's on to the next one though, so we have to worry about TCU."
How he's feeling at this point of the season:
"There's always room to improve and learn from coaches. They always say do the little thing because every little thing counts."
Running Back Chuba Hubbard
On what he's seen from TCU so far:
"They are a great team. They play hard and physical. Pretty sure they are the best defense in the Big 12. They do a great job with everything they do so I am looking forward to it. They are a great defense. They fly around the ball. They obviously played great against Texas. It's just another opportunity to play against a great opponent. I'm looking forward to it."
On if leading the NCAA in rushing yards is his goal:
"No, I don't really focus on individual goals a lot. For me, it's Big 12, National Championship and just winning games with my team."
Defensive End Brock Martin
On the win:
"It felt good. We needed it because we had taken a couple of losses and I can't remember the last time we lost three in a row. To go into Ames, a tough place to play, and get a win really gets the morale up around here. Now, we want to take that into the next game."
On TCU's quarterback:
"He's scrappy and takes care of the football. He hasn't had many turnovers this season and it's important to cause turnovers to win. That's what we want to try and do."
Defensive End Tyler Lacy
On TCU's offense:
"Their offensive front is big and physical at the point of attack. We have to go out there and do our jobs, assignments and what the coaches tell us to do so we can win."
On how it felt to play again:
"It felt good. I had to get back in the rhythm of playing and competing again."
On the number of reps he got:
"I actually got more reps than I thought I was going to. I felt comfortable playing with the guys."
On how the defense feels after last week:
"This was a real confidence booster. We already knew we had it but now we know we have to go out there and compete like that every week."
Offensive Lineman Johnny Wilson
On facing TCU this weekend:
"I'm excited. Ross Blacklock missed all of last season and I didn't get to play him. I played him two years ago and he was really good. I'm ready to see how he's improved and how he is this season."
On preparation for TCU:
"All of the guys are ready. We had a great practice today; a really physical practice. That's all Coach Dickey's asking of us is to be physical and be the stronger guy."
On how the win at Iowa State has affected the team:
"I think everyone's got that win behind us right now. We don't want to get too high up on ourselves. We just want to win. We want to go into this week with a clean slate, zero zero, and do the best we can."
Wide Receiver Braydon Johnson
On his improvements this season:
"It's been a grind. I've been keeping my head straight and coming out every day to work. Continuing to get better every day for my coaches and for my team. It's really has been a grind."
On the challenges of improving:
"I'd say the toughest part is mentally being able to stay focused from all the distractions. Everyone is here physically when you get to this level, but the mental aspect of it is just being able to stay focused. Even when you're having a bad day, push through it and keep working every day."
On how his improvements translate to gameday:
"It definitely boosts my confidence a lot. Knowing that I'm getting better every day. My team boosts my confidence for all of us to be successful."
