No. 3 Cowgirls Defeat UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. -Â The third-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated UC Davis, 13-5, Saturday at the UC Davis Equestrian Center.Â
"We had some very good rides today and I was proud of our team as a whole," head coach Larry Sanchez said. Â "We received 7 of the 8 MOP's over the past two days and we still have room for improvement. This is a very special team with a bright future."Â

The meet began with Fences, where the Cowgirls took the event in dominating fashion, 4-1. Sydnie Ziegler took her matchup with a 76-74 win over Keely Laughlin, and Katie Schell earned her third Fences win of the season in an MOP performance against Sabin Marquardt, 82-78. Hope King took her first win of the season against Alexis Sokolov, 67-55, while Abigail Brayman took the point by a wide margin with a 79-62 victory over Lily Ulrich.Â

Reining was a tightly contested battle, as the Aggies took the event, 2-1. Every matchup was neck-and-neck with Kristi Wiggins and Stephanie Helsen losing their matchups by less than two points. Both OSU captain Hannah Miller and Gentry Cherry's rides ended in ties, and Hannah Lovrien earned her first MOP of the season as she secured her point, 71-67.5.Â

The Cowgirls continued their English domination by taking Flat, 4-1. Katie Pelzel bested Keely Laughlin, 65-59, and Abigail Brayman had a strong win against Amber Ide, 70-59. Hannah Janson defeated Ella Longo in an MOP performance. Katie Schell improved to 5-1 on the season in Flat, topping Sierra Gunderson, 66-57.

OSU ended the meet with a commanding performance in Horsemanship. Captain Emma Verplank earned her fifth win of the season, besting Malena Palmer, 70.5-69. Cassidy Watters kept the scoring going for the Cowgirls, defeating Lauren Mooney, 73.5-68, and Harley Huff earned her second MOP of the season following a 75-69.5 win over Katie Flinn. Sydnee Gemar earned her second straight win after coming off an MOP performance against Fresno State.Â

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Nov. 8th as they take on TCU in Fort Worth.Â
