STILLWATER – The ITA Central Regional Championships Featured all-Cowgirl finals on Wednesday in Stillwater. Lisa Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto were crowned the doubles champions of the tournament, while No. 43 Rioux was crowned the singles champion.
The doubles match was a back-and-forth affair as Dariya Detkovskaya and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat went up against Rioux and Miyamoto for the final match. Rioux and Miyamoto won the first set without much trouble, 6-0. Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat would respond by taking the second set, 6-4 and forcing a 10-point tiebreak. Rioux and Miyamoto would come out on top, 13-11, to be crowned the champions of the ITA Central Regional Championship.
"We hope that both of these doubles teams will make it to the national doubles championships," OSU head coach Chris Young said. "They're both deserving because of the fall season they had and it's pretty special for both of them to be in the finals."
The singles final was a battle between No. 43 Lisa Rioux and Dariya Detkovskaya. Rioux defeated her teammate in the first set, 6-2. She would carry that momentum into the second set as she jumped out to a big lead never looked back, winning it, 6-3. Rioux's win gives OSU its 10th regional individual title since 2014.
"Both of these girls were fighting a lot of injuries throughout the tournament, but they played a fair match today," said Young after the singles match. "These types of matches make each other better. I think the great thing about this team is that we get this high quality level of practice every day and our team is going to be really good in the spring."
This marks the third time in the last five years that Oklahoma State has won both the singles and doubles championships at the ITA Regional Championships. Today also marks the second time in five years that both finals were comprised of only members of the Oklahoma State tennis team.
