Cowgirls Stay Perfect, Rout Seminole State College 11-1
October 23, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team pushed its winning streak to seven after beating Seminole State College, 11-1, in Cowgirl Stadium. OSU remains undefeated and now boasts a 7-0 record in Fall Ball.
Fueled by stifling pitching and aggressive base running, Cowgirl batters produced hits with runners on base from the middle of the order. On the night, OSU batters racked up 10 hits, five of them for extra bases, while the pitchers allowed just five hits.
"Another solid game, I thought we pitched well again and continued that trend," Head Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "We can really pitch, play catch and score enough runs. We have a lot to work on still, but we're a really good team."
The Cowgirls got on board in the second when Kiley Naomi executed a perfect bunt for a single and scored Maci Cunconan. OSU tacked on two more runs in the inning with a bases-loaded wild pitch and a Sydney Pennington sacrifice fly.
OSU pitchers have dominated throughout Fall Ball and Wednesday was no different. Starting pitcher Logan Simunek held the Trojans to just one hit through three innings.
The reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year Carrie Eberle didn't miss a beat when she came in relief and tossed three more scoreless innings to go along with six strikeouts. Helping her own cause in the bottom of the fifth, Eberle stepped up to the plate with two runners on and launched a towering home run to left for her first as a Cowgirl.
"Hitting-wise, it has been figuring out which adjustment works for me," Eberle said. "Taking off a whole season [hitting] is not ideal, so I finally felt comfortable in the box again. Pitching-wise, I felt really good. I felt like the ball was moving well. We had a good mix of pitches, which is always good to get practice in that way."
Kelly Maxwell bridged the gap to the finish line with three solid innings while picking up three strikeouts of her own.
Junior Michaela Richbourg extended OSU's lead with two-run double down the line in left that plated Cunconan and Jules Callaham.
"We are fixing a few things in my swing and I finally just realized I have to quit thinking and just go after it," Richbourg said. "The first couple of at-bats weren't my best, but I talked to Coach John Bargfeldt and Coach Gajewski and they helped me get through it."
Up next, the Cowgirls host Butler CC next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Stillwater for the final game of Fall Ball.
