Cowgirl Tennis Reaches Quarter And Semifinals In Singles And Doubles Play In Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - Lisa Rioux, Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, Dariya Detkovskaya, Catherine Gulihur, Alana Wolfberg and Ayumi Miyamoto competed in singles and doubles play at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Norman, Okla. on Sunday.
The day began with doubles play as Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya defeated No. 5 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner of Tulsa, 8-3. Rioux and Miyamoto also upset their opponents as they defeated No. 11 Lauren Alter and Tatum Rice of Arkansas, 8-3. The only doubles loss for OSU in the came as No. 27 Gulihur and Wolfberg lost to Oleksandra Korashvili and Jasmine Asghar of Oklahoma, 8-3.
In singles, No. 67 Thamchaiwat defeated No. 55 Rice in her first match of the day, 6-0, 6-4. No. 43 Lisa Rioux went on to defeat Marcelina Podlinska of Oklahoma, 6-4, 6-1 to move her into the next round. Detkovskaya also competed in singles and defeated Vasiliki Karvouni of Kansas, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 to push her into the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinal matches, Rioux won over No. 119 Sonia Smagina of Kansas, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2. Detkovskaya picked up her quarterfinal win over Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell of Iowa, 6-3, 7-5. The only quarterfinal loss came as Thamchaiwat fell to No. 82 Martina Capurro, 7-6(1), 6-3.Â
The semifinals of doubles play will begin at 9:00 a.m. (CST) on Monday when Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya take on Oklahoma's Romero and Capurro. Meanwhile, Miyamoto and Rioux will face off against the other Oklahoma doubles team of No. 21 Ivana Corley and Asghar.
The singles semifinals will also take place Monday. Rioux will take on Capurro of Oklahoma, while Detkovskaya takes on No. 21Â Oleksandra Korashvili.
