Cowgirls Continue Impressive Run In Day Two Of ITA Central Regional Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - Day two of the ITA Central Regional Championships began on Saturday in Norman, Okla. with multiple Cowgirls taking part in both doubles and singles play throughout the week.
Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Dariya Detkovskaya got play started for the Cowgirls in doubles as they defeated Wichita State's Alexandra Lazarova and Natsumi Kurahashi, 8-3. Lisa Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto came out of their first doubles match victorious over Iowa's Erika Dodridge and Danielle Burich, 8-1. No. 27 Alana Wolfberg and Catherine Gulihur took down Iowa State's Maty Cancini and Ting-Pei Chang.
Doubles played two rounds of doubles on Saturday and remained perfect in their second matches as well. Thamchaiwat and Detkovskaya defeated River Hart and Juliet Zhang of Minnesota, 8-3. In the same fashion, Rioux and Miyamoto got the best of another duo from Minnesota in Tina Kreinis and Tiffany Huber, 8-3. Finally, No. 27 Wolfberg and Gulihur picked up the final doubles win over Arkansas' Laura Rikjers and Kelly Keller, 8-5.
The Cowgirls kept up their impressive play in singles starting with a Detkovskaya win over Laia Conde of Tulsa, 6-1, 6-4. No. 43 Rioux defeated No. 86 Claire Reifeis of Nebraska in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. The final OSU win of the day came from No. 67 Thamchaiwat as she defeated Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The Cowgirls only suffered two losses on the day. The first one came as freshman Alana Wolfberg lost to No. 111 Elise Van Heuvelen of Iowa, 7-6(2), 6-3. No 119 Sonia Smagina defeated Catherine Gulihur in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
The tournament will continue tomorrow in both singles and doubles, with doubles competing in the quarterfinals of the tournament and singles in the round of 16. Detkovskaya and Thamchaiwat will take on No. 5 Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner of Tulsa. No. 27 Gulihur and Wolfberg will face Oleksandra Korashvili and Jasmine Asghar of Oklahoma, while Miyamoto and Rioux take on No. 11 Lauren Alter and Tatum Rice of Arkansas.
In singles, No. 67 Thamchaiwat will compete against Rice of Arkansas. No. 43 Rioux will face Marcelina Podlinska of Oklahoma, and finally, Detkovskaya will face off against Vasiliki Karvouni of Kansas.
