Oklahoma State from a Distance
Coming off an open week, Oklahoma State is 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 play. The story of the season so far has been the emergence of Heisman Trophy candidate Chuba Hubbard, who leads the nation in nearly every statistical rushing category, including rushing yards, rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards, yards after contact (via Pro Football Focus), yards per carry (min. 120) and more. Hubbard's 182.3 rushing yards per game average is 44.6 yards per game more than the 137.7 yards per game averaged by second-place J.K. Dobbins of Ohio State. For perspective, the spread between first place and second place is larger than the spread between second place and 33rd place. Hubbard's rushing yards through six games are better than three of the past four running backs to win the Heisman, and his yards per carry total is better than all four. OSU is far from one-dimensional, as wide receiver Tylan Wallace is also making a case to repeat as a first team All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, if not more. Wallace is fifth nationally with 703 receiving yards this season and he has more yards, catches and touchdowns now than he did through six games last season. Defensively, the Cowboys have held their past two opponents to a combined 3-of-26 (11.54%) on third down tries. That ranks No. 1 in the FBS over the past three weeks. Linebackers Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez have been the individual standouts, as both rank among the top five tacklers in the Big 12.
