Oklahoma State Game Notes
• The Basics
Welcome to the 238th installment of Bedlam Basketball. Both Oklahoma State (8-10, 2-4 Big 12) and Oklahoma (13-5, 2-4 Big 12) enter the year's second Bedlam showdown looking to shake a two-game losing streak. The Sooners took the first Bedlam matchup, 74-64, in Norman, but the Cowboys have won four of the last six games against OU, including the last two in Stillwater. Cameron McGriff leads OSU in both scoring and rebounding, and was just one rebound at Iowa State away from his seventh double-double of the season. The Sooners are led by Christian James, who ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 17.2 points per game.
• On the Air
The matchup will air on ESPNU at 8 p.m. Central. Mark Neely and Fran Fraschilla will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available at ESPN3 or via the WatchESPN app. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on TuneIn Radio or on satellite radio Sirius 98 and XM 199.
• Mr. Double-Double
Junior captain Cameron McGriff is averaging 14.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in Big 12 play, which puts him in some pretty lofty company. Here's where that ranks among OSU players since rebounds became an official stat in 1950-51.
• McGriff's 9.7 rebounds in conference play are the most by a Cowboy since Bryant Reeves (10.4) in 1994-95 and would be the 14th most in school history.
• In school history only eight players have ever managed to average 9.0+ rebounds per game in conference play, and those eight players accomplished that feat a combined 14 times.
• Only six players in school history have ever averaged a double-double in conference play, and those six players did it a combined 11 times. Once again, Bryant Reeves in 1994-95 was the last (20.5 ppg, 10.4 rpg).
• McGriff's six total double-doubles are tied for the second most in the Big 12 and are the most by a Cowboy since Marshall Moses had eight in 2010-11.
• The All-Sport Bedlam Series
Oklahoma State and Oklahoma compete yearly in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma Bedlam Series, an all-sports competition between the two schools, which are separated by only 80 miles along Interstate 35. The series champion is decided by wins and losses in head to head competition. In sports where there is no head to head matchup, the Big 12 Championship final standings are used. Oklahoma State has won the overall Bedlam series each of the last five years.
• Bedlam Basketball
This is the 238th hardwood meeting between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in a rivalry that dates back to 1908. With rare exception these two programs have met at least twice a year since 1916. OU leads the overall series, 138-99, although Oklahoma State has taken four of the last six meetings overall, including a sweep in 2016-17. The Sooners beat the Cowboys, 74-64, in Norman earlier this month to snap OSU's two game win streak in the series. OSU's next win over OU will be its 100th Bedlam victory.
• Bedlam In Stillwater
The Cowboys lead the series in Stillwater, 63-45, and have won the last two meetings in GIA. The last eight meetings in Stillwater have all been decided by eight points or less, including two in overtime, and the average margin of victory is 4.6 points. In the last Bedlam game in Stillwater, OSU withstood a Bedlam-record 48-point barrage from Trae Young to beat No. 4 Oklahoma, 83-81, in overtime on Jan. 20, 2018. Young's 48 points are the most ever by an OSU opponent and topped the previous Bedlam scoring record of 42 points by Jawun Evans on Jan. 13, 2016 in GIA.
