Cowgirl Tennis Collects First Win of the Season

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State's ninth-ranked women's tennis team bounced back from its season-opening loss to Duke, defeating Tulsa 6-1 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Saturday.Â

"Today was another good battle with Tulsa. They are always well coached, and it's a great match early in the season for us," head coach Chris Young said. "Today we competed well and that is really important. We have a lot of room for improvement, and it's exciting to have another opportunity tomorrow and for it to be at home in front of our fans."

The Cowgirls started the day with strong play in a doubles sweep, clinching the first point for OSU.
The tandem of Sofia Blanco and Catherine Gulihur took down the No. 4 pair in the nation, Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner, 6-4.

Going into singles play, Sofia Blanco got the Cowgirls rolling when she defeated Megan Hopton, 6-2, 6-3. Shortly after, Marina Guinart was victorious against Vera Ploner 7-5, 6-2. Bunyawi Thamchaiwat fell to Martina Okolva, 4-6, 3-6, cutting OSU's lead to 3-1.Â
Lisa Marie Rioux came out on top against Martha Matoula winning straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and No. 21 Katie Stresnakova beat Shura Poppe 6-4, 7-5. To end the day, Tamara Arnold played a closely contested match against Arianna Capogrosso and notched the win, 6-2, 7-6(3).

The Cowgirls return to the courts tomorrow at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center and take on Wyoming at 5:00 p.m.Â
