COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Oklahoma State's fourth-ranked equestrian team fell to No. 3 Texas A&M, 12-5, on Friday afternoon in College Station, Texas.
"Well, we beat ourselves today," OSU head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Our mistakes and penalties cost us this meet. We'll regroup this week and be a lot better going into our next competition."
The teams started with Equitation over Fences where freshman Sydnie Ziegler shined in her first start as a Cowgirl. She scored two points on the day, one in Fences (79) and the other in Flat (80). However, the Aggies' prevailed, 3-1.
Meanwhile in the Western Arena, Harley Huff picked up right where she left off last season. The returning All-American scored the Horsemanship team's lone point with a score of 74 on Lucas. Halfway through the meet, TAMU led 6-2.
The Aggies' Flat team started the second half of the meet with a 3-2 victory. OSU's two points came from Hannah Janson, who scored a 74 on Tin, and Ziegler.
After Stephanie Helsen and Texas A&M's Darby Gardner participated in a reride, the Aggies took Reining, 3-1. Hunter De Jane edged Kalee McCann for the lone point, 69-68.
Up next is the Cowgirls home opener against Baylor on October 13 at Totusek Arena.
"We're looking forward to practice these next two weeks and getting back into the competition arena at home against Baylor," Sanchez said.
