Cowgirls Resume Dominant Play in Milwaukee

STILLWATER– The Oklahoma State women's tennis team continued to roll through play in at the 43rd Milwaukee Tennis Classic today in Wisconsin. Following a rain delay this morning, the Cowgirls went 11-of-12 on the day through singles and doubles play.
Senior Sofia Blanco and freshman Catherine Gulihur paired for doubles and defeated Alexandra Belle and Mayya Perova of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, 8-5. Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova followed suit, besting Utah State's Sidnee Lavatai and Alexandra Pisareva, 8-3.
The pairs returned to the court after wrapping up singles play and took two more matches. Blanco and Gulihur took an 8-1 victory from Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado and Anna Rasmussen of Virginia Commonwealth. Guinart and Stresnakova picked up their second doubles match of the day in an 8-4 win. Both pairs advance to quarterfinals play tomorrow.
Blanco defeated Oklahoma's Camila Romero, 6-4, 6-2, but dropped her second match of the day in a close contest, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4).
Guilihur remained perfect and is headed to the quarterfinals after defeating Michigan State junior Samantha Memije 6-4,6-2. The freshman also bested Purdue's Seira Shimizu 7-5, 6-2.
Seniors Stresnakova and Guinart were also undefeated on the day. Guinart bested Guzal Yusupova (Syracuse) 6-2, 6-3 and Cincinnati's Caroline Morton 7-5, 6-2. Stresnakova topped Vikoriya Dzyuna of Lipscomb 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 and picked up the final singles win for the Cowgirls on Thursday 6-4, 6-7(0), 6-3.
Play picks back up tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. CST.
In Malibu, Lisa Marie Rioux dropped her singles match against Pepperdine's Evgeniya Levashova 6-3, 6-1, but Rioux and mixed doubles partner Yuya Ito (Texas) nabbed their first match of the day 6-1 and advanced to the mixed doubles finals after their second-match opponents withdrew.
