Cowgirl Equestrian Finishes Summer Slate

STILLWATER – Several members of the Oklahoma State equestrian team completed successful summer competition schedules as they prepared to return to the Cowgirls for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
A trio of returners earned honors at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA) World Championship, which was held in Oklahoma City and the National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) World Championships, held in Tulsa. To compete at the AQHYA World Championships, riders must be 18-years old or under at the start of the year.
Returning sophomore All-American Harley Huff was a unanimous world champion in the Hunt Seat Equitation at the NSBA World Championships and also placed in the top five in Horsemanship and Showmanship at NSBA. At the AQHYA World Championship, Huff was a top-five finisher in Horsemanship and Hunt Seat Equitation.
Mackenzie Chapman won two World Championships at the American Paint Horse Association Youth World Championships. She won one in SPB Youth Showmanship and the other in SPB Youth Hunter Under Saddle. Chapman did not compete last season for OSU.
Sydnee Gemar took home the bronze trophy for Showmanship at AQHYA World Championships and was a finalist in L2 Trail while also making the semifinals in L2 Horsemanship. Gemar did not compete for the Cowgirls this past season.
Natalie Alcorn competed at both AQHYA and NSBA World Shows this summer. In Oklahoma City, she was a finalist in L3 Trail and also a top-10 finisher in Western Riding. She also scored in the top 10 for Western Riding at NSBA. Alcorn went 0-1 in her lone start for the Cowgirls against Fresno State in 2017-18.
Incoming freshmen Hannah Lovrien and Kinsey Jones both impressed at the AQHYA World Championship as well. Lovrien was a reserve champion in L2 Ranch Riding, a bronze trophy winner in L3 Ranch Riding and a finalist in Reining. Jones finished in the top 10 in Working Cowhorse.
Oklahoma State opens the 2018-19 season on Sept. 28, in College Station, Texas, against Texas A&M.
