Shippy Earns Third CoSIDA Academic All-America Nod
June 04, 2018 | Cowgirl Softball
AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma State softball standout Vanessa Shippy was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division I Softball team, earning first-team honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in Monday's announcement. It is the third time Shippy has been named an Academic All-American, making her the first softball player in OSU history to earn the honor on three occasions.
Shippy, who recently graduated from Oklahoma State with degrees in marketing and finance, as well as a minor in accounting, is just the third three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in Oklahoma State athletics history. She joins OSU football's Tom Wolf (1972-74) and former men's track/cross country standout Ryan Vail (2008-10) in that exclusive club.
The Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, native is also now one of six OSU athletes to be named a first-team selection on multiple occasions, joining Brad Beanblossom (baseball - 1988-89), Krista Lopez (soccer - 2011-12), Brad Lundblade (football - 2016-17), Zack Robinson (at-large/men's golf - 2005-06), and the aforementioned Ryan Vail.
Oklahoma State now has 77 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, and has had at least one honoree in the past 14 academic years. Shippy's nomination is the 11th time that an OSU softball player has been recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
