Oklahoma State AD Holder Awarded Contract Extension
June 22, 2018 | General
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents approved a three-year contract extension for OSU Director of Athletics Mike Holder during its regular meeting Friday in Oklahoma City.
Holder's annual salary for each of the contract's three years will be $950,000. The new agreement is effective from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021.
"Coach Holder's compensation has been well below market for years," said OSU President Burns Hargis. "Under his leadership, Oklahoma State is one of the most well-rounded, competitive athletic programs in the country. Mike has led historic improvements in facilities and performance of our athletes and, with this adjustment, his compensation will be more in line with Big 12 athletic directors."
After 32 years as the men's golf coach at Oklahoma State, Holder was named athletic director on Sept. 16, 2005, and immediately began to oversee one of the largest and most comprehensive facility upgrades in the history of intercollegiate athletics.
Under Holder, OSU has completed massive facility upgrades for football, including an overhaul of Boone Pickens Stadium, The Sherman E. Smith Training Facility, new practice fields and the impressive west end zone, which serves as the home base for football operations and also houses OSU's training table as well as Orange Power Studios.
The football upgrades, however, were just the beginning. The transformation also has included new locker rooms for Cowboy and Cowgirl basketball, the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center, a new outdoor track, including locker rooms, and ongoing construction on new stadiums for women's soccer and baseball as well as upgrades for women's equestrian.
During Holder's tenure, OSU has continued its history as a well-rounded athletic department and during the 2015-2016 athletic year Oklahoma State finished an all-time best No. 13 in the Learfield Director's Cup, which is based on a cumulative point total of the nation's athletic departments based on finishes in the national championship tournament of each sport.
Since Holder assumed the AD role in 2005, OSU has won 49 conference championships spanning 11 different sports, with six NCAA championships.
