Trevor Richardson Hired as Director of Counseling and Sport Psychology

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has added Dr. Trevor Richardson as its Director of Counseling and Sport Psychology, OSU Athletic Director Mike Holder announced Wednesday.
Richardson joins the athletic department after more than 10 years on campus as part of Oklahoma State University Counseling Services. He had served as Director of University Counseling Services since 2016.
"I am very excited to help start up the mental health program in the athletic department," Richardson said. "I think it's a wonderful asset to the whole athletic department and I'm excited to be part of the team."
Prior to his time with University Counseling Services, Richardson also gained experience working at Jefferson Correctional Institution in Monticello, Fla., Kansas State University Counseling Services, Payne County Youth Services and two other stints with OSU Counseling Services. Additionally, he has worked as a licensed psychologist since 2009 as a private practice clinician and has taught multiple college courses.
During his career, Richardson has also conducted a significant amount of research, served on a variety of committees, been involved with state-organizations and worked with professionals from multi-disciplinary settings and a wide variety of students.
Richardson is an active member of the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Association Division 47: Exercise & Sport Psychology and Oklahoma Counselors in Higher Education, where he previously served as treasurer. He graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa, in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, received his Master of Science in Counseling & Student Personnel from OSU in 2001 and earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology from OSU in 2008.
