Cowboy Wrestlers Set for U23 Nationals in Akron

STILLWATER – A number of current members of the Oklahoma State wrestling team will head to Akron, Ohio, this weekend to contend for a spot on the United States U23 Freestyle World Team at the U23 Team Trials. The U23 World Championships are set for Nov. 12-18 in Bucharest, Romania.

Freestyle action at the event is set for Saturday and Sunday, and can be streamed live on FloWrestling.org.

Cowboys competing for World Team spots include Nick Piccininni (61kg), Jacob Fontanez (61kg), Kaden Gfeller (65kg), Kaid Brock (65kg), Tristan Moran (65kg), Boo Lewallen (70kg), Chandler Rogers (79kg), Joe Smith (79kg) and Cornelius Putnam (125kg).

Athletes born between 1995-1999 or 2000 with a medical certificate are eligible to compete at the U23 Trials.

The finals is a best-of-three series with the winner earning a bid to Romania to represent the U.S.

Saturday, June 2
9:30 a.m. – Session III (U23 FS prelims)
4 p.m. – Session IV (U23 FS quarterfinals)

Sunday, June 3
9:30 a.m. – Session V (U23 FS semifinals through ALL medal matches, including best-of-three finals)
