WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis doubles team of senior Vladica Babic and junior Sofia Blanco knocked off No. 8 Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirezon of Syracuse Friday to advance into the national quarterfinals at the NCAA Individual Championships and clinch All-America status.
Â
With the win, Babic and Blanco become the first OSU All-American doubles team since 1991. Next, they will look to become the first-ever Cowgirl duo to win a national title, beginning with a quarterfinal match against Winthrop's No. 23 Megan Kauffman and Lauren Proctor on Saturday.
Â
The Cowgirls and Orange battled it out in an epic, back-and-forth match, but Babic and Blanco proved to be clutch by pulling out the win in a three-set triumph to advance.
Â
Babic and Blanco started hot and took the first set, 6-4. The two teams went blow for blow in the second, but Syracuse was able to come up with the 7-5 decision to force a third set.
Â
With the first two sets split, the match was to be decided by way of a third-set super tiebreaker. The Syracuse duo opened the tiebreaker with a 5-1 lead, but Babic and Blanco remained poised in winning nine of the final 12 points of the match to pick up the win.
