STILLWATER – Three members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team have been selected to compete at the 2018 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The tournament is set for May 23-28 at Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston Salem, N.C.
Seniors Vladica Babic and Megan McCray earned at-large bids into the singles draw, while Babic and junior Sofia Blanco earned an automatic bid in doubles.
Currently ranked No. 20 in the nation and looking for her first All-America honor, Babic will make her third-straight appearance in the NCAA singles draw later this month. The Cowgirl senior is 25-6 overall this season with a 12-3 mark in duals, also riding a six-match win streak into the NCAA Tournament. Babic is 10-6 against ranked opponents so far this season.
McCray will be making her first appearance in the NCAA singles draw, also taking aim for her first career All-America recognition. The Oceanside, Calif., native has been red hot this season, amassing a 17-1 record this spring while competing primarily in the No. 2 spot. McCray is a perfect 4-0 against ranked opponents.
Babic and Blanco will be making their first appearance as a tandem at the NCAA Doubles Championship. It will be Babic's second appearance overall, after competing with Carla Tur Mari last season. Ranked No. 13 in the nation and currently on a 12-match win streak, Babic and Blanco are 26-7 overall this season and 15-2 in duals.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. In doubles, a 10-point match tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championship is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.
