Versatile Forward Calloo Signs With Cowboy Basketball
May 11, 2018 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State basketball coach Mike Boynton has announced the signing of versatile forward Maurice Calloo (6-9, 225, F, Huntington Prep [WV], Windsor, Canada) to the Cowboy basketball program.
247Sports.com lists Calloo (pronounced "caw-loo") as the No. 56 power forward in the country and the No. 13 overall player in the state of West Virginia, where he currently attends school at Huntington Prep. The 247Sports joined Rivals.com and other sites in ranking Calloo a three-star prospect.
"We are excited to know that Maurice will be joining the Cowboy Basketball family," Boynton said. "Mo is a versatile player who can play basically anywhere on the court. He has a great shot for a player his size, but he also has good ball handling ability and can drive and make plays in the paint. He is a really good finisher and an aggressive rebounder. He will add to our versatility and length."
Calloo played the 2017-18 season at Oak Hill Academy, where he helped the Warriors rack up a 42-2 record and advance to the semifinals of the Geico High School Nationals.
Originally from Windsor, Canada, Calloo becomes just the second Canadian to play for the Cowboys and the first since Howard Kelsey in 1975-78.
Calloo was a teammate of Cowboy guard Curtis Jones while previously at Huntington Prep, and he played his AAU ball for the Atlanta Celtics.
"Mo has never backed down from a challenge and that is one of the first things that I liked about him," Boynton said. "He has competed with and against some of the best basketball players in the country at the high school level and knows the work and commitment it takes to be a winner. We can't wait to work with him and help him become the best player he can be."
Calloo joins a Cowboy basketball recruiting class that includes Mike Cunningham (6-0, 185, Gr., G, Washington D.C., USC-Upstate), Kentrevious Jones (6-10, 290, F/C, Macon, Ga.), Duncan Demuth (6-8, 215, F, Seminole, Fla.) and Yor Anei (6-10, 220, F, Lee's Summit, Mo.).
