Five Cowgirls Earn All-Big 12 Honors

STILLWATER – Five members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team have been named to the 2018 All-Big 12 team, the league announced Thursday.

Cowgirl seniors Vladica Babic and Megan McCray earned first team recognition in singles, while Babic and junior Sofia Blanco garnered first team honors in doubles. Junior Marina Guinart was named to the second team in singles and was joined by teammate Katarina Stresnakova in earning second team doubles recognition.

Babic was named to the All-Big 12 singles team for the third time in her career after an impressive campaign that has seen the Montenegro native tally a 25-6 overall record so far to go along with a 13-3 dual mark and a 5-1 Big 12 record. Babic is 11-6 against ranked opponents this year and has won six-straight matches heading into NCAA Tournament play.

McCray has been a rock for the Cowgirls in the No. 2 singles spot this season on the way to earning her second career All-Big 12 selection. Boasting a perfect 6-0 conference mark, the Cowgirl senior is 17-1 on the season thus far and a perfect 4-0 against ranked opponents.

Babic and Blanco have been nearly automatic in the top singles spot for the Pokes, notching a 26-7 overall record with 12 of those wins coming over ranked opponents. The Cowgirl tandem is 7-0 in Big 12 play and 15-2 in dual matches, currently owning a 12-match win streak as well. It marks the fourth career recognition in doubles for Babic and first for Blanco.

In her first season as a Cowgirl, Guinart has impressed at the No. 4 singles spot to earn her first All-Big 12 accolade. Guinart is 24-8 overall this season and 14-2 in dual action, including a 5-2 mark in conference play.

Guinart and Stresnakova are both receiving their first career doubles All-Big 12 honor after teaming up this season to hold down the No. 2 position for the Cowgirls. The junior duo is 19-11 overall this season and racked up a 7-2 record in Big 12 play. OSU has taken the doubles point 12 of the 13 times that Guinart and Stresnakova were victorious in their dual doubles match.

The Cowgirls will open NCAA Tournament play this weekend as they host No. 24 Tulsa, LSU and UMKC in regional action. OSU will take on UMKC in the first round at 4 p.m. on Friday. If victorious, the Pokes will advance to the regional final on Saturday at 3 p.m. to play for a spot in the Sweet 16. Tickets are available at okstate.com/tickets.
