36 Honored As Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State was well represented with the recent announcement of the 2018 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars. OSU had 36 student-athletes representing 13 different sports included among this year's honorees.
The Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award honors undergraduate students of color for their success in intercollegiate sports, in the classroom and in the community. All nominees must maintain a 3.2 grade point average.
Women's track and field led the way with eight representatives, while Cowgirl soccer had five players make the list. OSU cheer followed with four honorees, while baseball and football and men's track each had three scholars apiece.
Softball, women's basketball, wrestling each had a pair of student-athletes make the list as well.
Equestrian, men's basketball, women's golf and women's tennis each had one honoree.
Issues in Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. In addition to their athletic ability and academic performance, Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars demonstrate a commitment to community service and student leadership.
Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr,'s commitment to education as well as his love for tennis, U.S. colleges and universities are invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars.
