Shippy, Robertson Sweep Big 12 Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State softball's Vanessa Shippy and Emmie Robertson swept the Big 12 Conference's weekly awards, collecting player and pitcher of the week honors, the league office announced Monday.
It is the first time that OSU has swept the league's weekly honors since Feb. 18, 2014 when Tarah Ettinger and Simone Freeman won player and pitcher of the week, respectively. Monday's announcement marks the third time this season that Shippy has been named the Big 12's best weekly performer and it is the first such honor for Robertson.
Shippy had yet another astronomical week, racking up 11 hits in 19 at-bats and scoring six more runs to further cement herself as a candidate for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. The senior's 11 hits came across five games, and she had multiple hits in all five of the Cowgirls' contests.
Her biggest showing during the week was a combined 5-for-7 display during OSU's doubleheader against No. 16 Baylor last Friday in Stillwater. Shippy recorded three base hits and scored three times during Friday's opener, helping the Cowgirls best the Lady Bears in run-rule fashion, 14-6. She then racked up two more hits in a series-clinching 2-1 victory later that night.
Two of Shippy's 11 hits were doubles, including a two-out shot to left-center field in the Cowgirls' 5-1 sweep-clinching win over BU on Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium. Shippy now has 53 career doubles to her credit and is just three shy of tying the Big 12 career record.
Including a three-hit showing at Kansas last weekend, Shippy has recorded multiple hits in each of her last six games. Her outburst at the plate has seen her reach base safely in 37 consecutive games, which is the longest such streak of her illustrious career. Shippy also reached base as the Cowgirls' first batter of the game in all three matchups against Baylor and has reached as OSU's leadoff batter in 24 of the team's last 29 contests.
Shippy currently leads the Big 12 conference in batting average, on-base percentage, walks and runs scored. She ranks among the top two nationally in all four of those categories.
Emmie Robertson also had yet another fantastic week while wearing the black and orange, as she hurled 13.1 innings of one-run softball against two quality opponents.
Robertson first mowed down the Missouri State batting order, striking out seven en route to throwing her second-straight complete-game shutout. She then pitched a gem against No. 16 Baylor, allowing only one run in 6.1 innings against one of the league's most potent offenses.
Oklahoma State needed a seventh-inning rally to defeat the Lady Bears, but Robertson's excellence in the circle played a significant part in the Cowgirls' ability to come back in that contest.
