Cowgirl Tennis Falls to No. 13 Texas Tech
April 15, 2018 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team came up short to No. 13 Texas Tech Sunday afternoon at the Greenwood Tennis Center, falling 4-1. It marked only the second home loss for the Cowgirls since 2015.
Â
"We just don't have much margin for error right now," head coach Chris Young said. "Texas Tech played well and capitalized on the points that were there for them. We got down and couldn't dig ourselves out of the hole. Overall, I thought we competed well, but it just wasn't enough today."
Â
The match also served as Senior Day for the team, who honored Cowgirl seniors Vladica Babic and Megan McCray.
Â
The Cowgirls couldn't come up with the doubles point, giving up wins on the back two courts as the Red Raiders earned the early, 1-0 advantage. Babic and Sofia Blanco led No. 15 Sabrina Federici and Sarah Dvorak, 4-2, as Texas Tech clinched the doubles point and the match was suspended.
Â
The Red Raiders stretched their lead to 3-0 with wins on courts four and six. Saralyn Dyer fell in straight sets to Katelyn Jackson, before Marina Guinart dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to No. 96 Sabrina Federici.
Â
Babic got the Cowgirls on the board in a huge victory over No. 17 Gabriela Talaba. Babic was in control throughout, feeding off a rowdy crowd on the way to a 6-3, 6-3 win. The win was her fifth straight and was her tenth win over a ranked foe this season.
Â
Texas Tech clinched the match at No. 3 in a Alex Valenstein 6-3, 6-4 win over Katarina Stresnakova.
Â
As the match was clinched in favor of the Red Raiders, McCray led, 5-3, in the third set and Sofia Blanco was knotted at four-all in the second set after taking the first.
Â
The Cowgirls will be back in action next weekend when they hit the road to face No. 17 Kansas and Kansas State in their final matches of the regular season.
