Cowboys Sixth After Day One At The Thunderbird

Day 1 Results
TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team wrapped up the first day of action at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in sixth place after posting a 36-hole total of 565 at Arizona State's Karsten Course.
Owners of a seven-tournament winning streak, the top-ranked Cowboys posted a 1-under 283 during their morning round to stand alone in seventh place. The host Sun Devils carded a 10-under 274 to lead by two at the par-71, 7,032-yard layout.
With a 2-under 282 score during the afternoon round, OSU moved up one spot with its 3-under tally for the day. The Cowboys will enter tomorrow's final round three shots behind Arizona for fifth place.
Arizona State and UNLV shared the top spot on the leaderboard, posting matching totals of 550, 18-under par.
UNLV's Shintaro Ban and Colorado's Yannik Paul shared the individual lead after posting matching 9-under totals of 133.
Seniors Kristoffer Ventura and Sam Stevens led the OSU starting five, finishing among the group tied for 15th place at 2-under 140. Ventura signed for rounds of 69 and 71, while Stevens turned in scores of 71 and 69.
Freshman Matthew Wolff posted scores of 72 and 70 to finish at 142 and tied for 24th place.
Junior Zach Bauchou finished his day with a 144 total that included rounds of 71 and 73 to tie him for 37th place.
Sophomore Viktor Hovland came in tied for 48th place at 146 with scores of 74 and 72.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 7:33 a.m. (MST). Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
OSU has five players competing in the Arizona State Individual tournament at Papago Golf Course as well.
At the par-71, 7,316-yard layout, junior Nick Heinen posted rounds of 70 and 68 for a 4-under total of 138 to stand one shot clear of the field.
Freshman Austin Eckroat also finished the day in the top five, carding rounds of 70 and 71 to stand alone in fourth place at 141.
Senior Brendon Jelley was a stroke back of Eckroat and among the top five as well, after posting scores of 70 and 72 to come in tied for fifth place at 142.
Junior Hayden Wood posted a pair of 73s to share 12th place at 146, while senior Stratton Nolen finished the day in 22nd place at 149 after carding rounds of 75 and 74.
