STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped a 6-4 contest to Dallas Baptist Tuesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Andrew Rosa and Colin Simpson each homered and went 2-for-5 at the plate, but it wasn't enough as the Cowboys fell to 8-7 with their third-straight loss.
Brady Basso also had a strong effort for OSU in a starting role on the mound. The sophomore southpaw tossed a career-high six innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five.
OSU took the game's initial lead in the fifth inning when Rosa popped his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right-center field.
The lead would not last long, however, as DBU (9-6) tied the score in its next at bat. Jameson Hannah led off the sixth with a double and later scored on a two-out double by Tim Millard to knot things at 1-1.
The seventh inning saw the Patriots take control of the scoreboard. Jake Purl opened the inning on the mound for OSU and after a leadoff walk and a fielder's choice, a double by Jimmy Glowenke to right-center field on a ball lost in the sun put two DBU runners in scoring position.
Up next, a walk loaded the bases and brought Noah Sifrit out of the bullpen. The freshman recorded a huge strikeout of Hannah, but the next batter, Devlin Granberg, delivered a two-RBI single just off the glove of shortstop Matt Kroon to bring home two runs and make the score 3-1.
DBU extended its lead to 6-1 with three runs on four hits off Ben Leeper in the eighth. The Patriots finished the contest with 10 hits, five of those doubles by a team that came into the game 12th nationally in doubles per game.
The Cowboys made things interesting in the ninth. After Ryan Van Leeuwen made his OSU debut in a scoreless top of the inning, the Pokes put two runners on with two outs before Simpson blasted a three-run home run to pull the home team to within 6-4.
But that was as close as OSU would get as Kroon grounded out to end the game.
OSU concludes its seven-game homestand this weekend. The Cowboys host Seton Hall Friday at 6:30 p.m. before a Saturday contest against Missouri State at 6 p.m.; they conclude the weekend with another game against Seton Hall at noon Sunday.
