Cowgirl Softball Holds Pair of Top-20 Rankings

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team continued to climb the national rankings this week, as the Cowgirls moved up one spot to No. 18 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and sit at No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
It is the fourth-straight week that OSU (8-2) has been ranked in at least one of the national polls dating back to last season's final rankings. The Cowgirls have also now held a spot inside the top 20 of both national polls in back-to-back weeks.
Oklahoma State is coming off another impressive weekend of invitational play, as the Cowgirls went 4-1 at the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational. The Cowgirls bested Florida Atlantic, Missouri, South Florida and Oakland to post a 4-1 record for the second-straight weekend.
OSU's 8-2 start is the best for the team since the 2011 squad also opened the year at 8-2.
The Cowgirls' offense has been among the nation's elite so far this season, and that trend continued this past weekend in Clearwater, Florida, as Oklahoma State launched six more home runs to bring its season total to 18. OSU's 18 home runs are the fifth-most of any team in the country after two weeks of action.
Oklahoma State is also averaging 7.6 runs per contest thus far, which is the 12th-best average among Division 1 softball programs. It is also the top mark in the Big 12 Conference to this point.
Head coach Kenny Gajewski and the Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend as they head to the west coast to compete in the 2018 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. While in Palm Springs, California, Oklahoma State will open up against Wisconsin and Oregon State on Thursday before squaring off with No. 5/2 Oregon, Mississippi State and UC Davis on Friday and Saturday.
