Bases Loaded: Cowgirls Take Four in Arizona

STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State softball team earned four wins this past weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Arizona, showcasing a potential offensive powerhouse in the process. Take a trip around the bases and see what some of the talking points are coming out of the weekend:
FIRST BASE: Shippy Showcase
Words can't accurately describe the play of Vanessa Shippy in Arizona. How the two-time All-American fared this weekend:
She batted 11-for-13, scored nine runs, drove in six, walked five times and hit two home runs.
Through one week of play, Shippy leads the Big 12 Conference in batting average (.836), on-base percentage (895), hits (11), walks (5), runs scored (9) and total bases (17). She also ranks in the top five among players in the league in slugging percentage (1.308), runs batted in (6) and home runs (2).
Along with putting up gaudy numbers all weekend, the left-handed hitter notched several notable moments in her historic career out in the desert.
Her second walk against No. 7/7 Arizona last Friday pushed her into the top spot on the OSU career walks list, as she surpassed Tiffany Mikkelson's previous record of 122 bases on balls. Shippy also became the eighth Cowgirl in program history to log 200 career hits when she supplied the Cowgirls' fourth run in a 6-3 win over Missouri by chopping a 2-2 pitch back up the middle, scoring Rylee Bayless from third.
SECOND BASE: Cowgirls Topple Top-10 Wildcats
Speaking of the previously mentioned Arizona, Oklahoma State earned its second win over a top-10 opponent during head coach Kenny Gajewski's tenure this past weekend when the Cowgirls knocked off the seventh-ranked Wildcats, 9-4.
OSU jumped on their toes early, putting up four runs in the first inning. And in the circle, Emmie Robertson pitched a complete game on her debut as a Cowgirl to help OSU earn its first win of the year.
THIRD BASE: Standouts Throughout the Squad
Oklahoma State's roster was littered with standouts, from seniors to freshmen, in Arizona. A look at some of the Cowgirls' standout performers:

Sydney Pennington – 10-20, 2B, HR, 5 R, 9 RBI
Emmie Robertson – 2.80 ERA, 10.0 IP, 8 K, 2 W, 1 CG
Jessi Haffner – 6-11, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 3 BB
Madi Sue Montgomery – 7-15, 2 HR, 2B, 7 RBI, 5 R
HOME PLATE: On to Florida
Despite several historic moments this past weekend, the Cowgirls already have their eyes on what lies ahead.
This week, OSU will head to Clearwater, Florida to once again compete in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational. The squad will face five more top-notch teams this weekend, including No. 12/11 Tennessee and a second showdown with Missouri.
