OSU Game Notes
• The Basics
Oklahoma State went into the holiday break on the strength of an 82-73 win over Central Arkansas that saw a breakout performance from Curtis Jones. Playing in his first game in Gallagher-Iba Arena, Jones posted a game-high 23 points and six rebounds, which were also career highs for the Indiana transfer. Now, the Cowboys will wrap-up non-conference play against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which rolls into Stillwater having lost five of its last six. OSU is 10-0 all-time against the Islanders, including an 8-0 mark in GIA. They are led offensively by Myles Smith and Kareem South, who average 11.8 and 11.2 points per game, respectively.
• On the Air
The matchup between the Cowboys and Islanders will air on Fox Sports Oklahoma at noon Central. Mike Wolfe, Bryndon Manzer and Allison Gappa will handle the on-air duties. The webcast is available via FoxSportsGo. Dave Hunziker and John Holcomb will have the Cowboy Radio Network call, which can also be heard on the TuneIn app.
• Transfer of Power
In his first game in GIA, Curtis Jones dropped 23 points on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point, which earned him Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors alongside Oklahoma's Miles Reynolds. Not only was it a career-high for Jones, but it was the most points by an OSU player making his GIA debut since James Anderson in 2007 (29 points against Prairie View A&M). Andy Katz named Jones one of the nation's top-15 transfers heading into the 2018-19 season. The Richmond, Virginia native appeared in 40 games for Indiana over the previous two seasons. The junior shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from beyond the arc in 2016-17, and scored 3.5 points in 11.2 minutes per game as a true freshman. Jones was a standout at Huntington Prep and a consensus top-100 recruit prior to his time in Bloomington.
• The Series With The Islanders
This will be the 11th all-time meeting between Oklahoma State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and the Cowboys have won all 10 previous meetings with an average margin of victory of 22.6 points. OSU is 8-0 in Gallagher-Iba Arena against the Islanders.
• Islanders Snapshot
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was tabbed to finish ninth out of 13 teams in the Southland Conference Preseason Poll. The Islanders are off to a 5-7 start, but have dropped five of their last six games. The Islanders and Cowboys have one common opponent, UTSA, which defeated TAMUCC, 64-50, on Dec. 20. The Cowboys took down UTSA, 82-60, in the home opener on Nov. 14. The Islanders are led offensively by Myles Smith and Kareem South, who average 11.8 and 11.2 points per game, respectively.
