November 06, 2018 | Cowgirl Tennis
SURPRISE, Ariz., - Oklahoma State's Lisa Marie Rioux and Sofia Blanco will begin play at the Oracle ITA Fall Championships on Wednesday. The pair is set to compete in doubles and Rioux in the singles division as well.
Â
The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships feature a 64-player singles draw and 32-team doubles draw. Players qualify based upon performance in select fall tournaments. Rioux and Blanco qualified for the tournament following a runner-up finish at the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., a month ago, but their run was cut short when the pair was defeated by Stanford's Caroline Lample and Kimberly Yee.
Â
Additionally, the pair reached the semifinals at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Iowa City. Blanco also advanced to the semifinals in singles play at the event.
Â
"I am excited for Lisa and Sofi to finish their fall at the ITA Fall Nationals, "said coach Chris Young. "Our girls have traditionally done very well at this event, and it has given them confidence going into the spring. I am excited for Sofi and Lisa to compete against the best players in the country and represent our program this week."
Â
Play begins on Wednesday at 9 a.m. MST. ESPN3.com will stream men and women's singles and doubles finals live on Sunday. Rioux matches up with Luliia Bryzgalova of Pennsylvania in the first round, and the doubles team plays North Texas' Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze Wednesday afternoon.
