SARASOTA, Fla. – Oklahoma State's doubles team of senior Marina Guinart and freshman Catherine Gulihur reached the finals at the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic after play was suspended Friday due to inclement weather.
Guinart and Gulihur bested Virginia Tech's Sarah Baron and Natalie Novotna, 8-3, on Saturday morning. In what was supposed to be their only match of the day, the Cowgirls beat Florida Gulf Coast's Madison Gallegos and Sofia Perez, 8-4.
Both Cowgirls reached the singles quarterfinals at the event on Friday as well. Guinart lost to Liberty's Ashley Bongart, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8, and Virginia Tech's Natalie Novotna bested Guhlihur in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
The doubles team returns to the court Sunday to face UCF's Ksenia Kuznetsova and Natalia Serrano for a shot at the tournament title.
