LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Cowboys defeated No. 19 LSU on Sunday in the third-place game of the AdvoCare Invitational, 90-77.
OSU (4-2) won its seventh game against a ranked opponent in the Mike Boynton era. It's also the 123rd time the Cowboys have defeated an AP top-25 team in program history.
The defining stretch of the game came at the end of the first half and carried over into the start of the second half. OSU went on a 22-2 run that started with 2:23 remaining in the first half and lasted until the 13:05 mark of the second half. In that stretch, LSU (5-2) missed 11 consecutive field goal attempts.
Cameron McGriff had the best performance of his career, putting up 28 points on 10 made field goals. He has put up double-digit scoring numbers in every game this season. Both of those marks are career highs for the junior. McGriff was also honored postgame as a member of the All-Tournament team.
McGriff's career high led the way for the Cowboys, whose 90 points were the most they've scored all season. OSU made 58.5 percent of its field goal attempts and connected on half of its 3-point attempts.
On the other end of the floor, OSU was just as proficient. The Cowboys limited the Tigers to 41.2 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from distance. The Cowboy defense suffocated LSU in the early going, as the Tigers went 0-for-11 to start the game.
Isaac Likekele filled up the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Lindy Waters impressed from long range making three of his four 3-point attempts. Waters scored 16 points, collected five rebounds and blocked a career-high two shots.
This is the third consecutive regular season tournament in which OSU has placed third. They also came in third place at the 2016 Maui Invitational and the 2017 Legends Classic.
The Cowboys next game is at 9 p.m. on Friday night when they take on Minnesota.
