Guinart and Gulihur Reach Quarterfinals at Dickie V Classic

SARASOTA, Fla. – Senior Marina Guinart and freshman Catherine Gulihur are moving on after the first day of competition at the Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. Both Cowgirls won two matches to position themselves in the field of eight.
The pair began the day with a 6-3 doubles victory over Appalachian State's Jeannez Daniel and Katherine Earnhardt to reach the quarterfinals. A second doubles match was postponed due to rain and is scheduled to be played in the morning.
Guinart defeated Florida Gulf Coast's Sara Kelly, 6-3, 6-1, in her first match of the day. In the round of 16, the Cowgirl bested TCU's Stevie Kennedy 6-0, 2-6, 10-3. She will play the winner of the match between Ana Roman Dominguez (USF) and Ashley Bongart (LU).
In her first year at the event, Gulihur defeated Marlene Herrmann (UAB), 6-4, 6-1, to advance to the second round where she beat Florida's Marlee Zein, 6-2, 6-1.
The pair will resume doubles play Saturday morning at 8 a.m., against Virginia Tech's Sarah Baron and Natalie Novotna for a shot at the semifinals.
