Late Comeback Drops Cowgirl Equestrian

SPRINGTOWN, Texas – The eighth-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team fell to No. 6 TCU, 11-9, in a road contest Friday at Turning Point Ranch.
The meet started with Equitation over Fences where the Horned Frogs took an early 3-2 lead. Sydnie Ziegler and Hannah Janson tied things up for OSU before TCU's Wynne Weatherly retook the lead for the home team.
OSU tied things up in Reining, taking the event 3-2. Kristi Wiggins, Hunter DeJane and Stephanie Helsen scored points for the Cowgirls.
With things knotted at 5-5 after the first half of the meet, the two teams moved onto Horsemanship. OSU took its first lead of the day courtesy of Emma Verplank after she defeated Cydney Benes, 73.5-59.5.
Harley Huff and team captain Sarah Miller also secured points for OSU in Horsemanship to take an 8-7 lead with Equitation on the Flat remaining.
But TCU took four of the five Flat points to win the meet, 11-9. Molly Dunn scored the lone point for the Cowgirls as she defeated Alex Beneson, 85-57.
"We had some very good rides today against a tough TCU team." said OSU head coach Larry Sanchez. "The meet was very close until the end. I was proud of the effort of our team and look forward to returning home next weekend."
The Cowgirls return home for their last meet of the fall Nov. 10 against West Texas A&M. The meet starts at 10 a.m.
