Fourteen Cowgirls Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes
October 04, 2018 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Fourteen members of the 2018 Oklahoma State softball team were announced as Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes on Wednesday. OSU's 14 honorees are the most by a Big 12 program, edging out Kansas by one.
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5.
The group of 14 consists of: Chelsea Alexander, Emily Clark, Brighton Gilbert, Lauren Heintzelman, Maddi Holcomb, Brooke Johnson, Elise LeBeouf, Jamie Lowrie, Madi Sue Montgomery, Sydney Pennington, Emmie Robertson, Vanessa Shippy, Mackenzie Thomas and Whitney Whitehorn.
Maddi Holcomb was the leader of the Cowgirls' pack, earning a 4.0 grade-point average during her senior season.
Holcomb was also one of six to couple Wednesday's honor with selections to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, which was announced in May.
The academic achievement also adds another accolade to Vanessa Shippy's growing list, as she was also named the Big 12 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a second-consecutive season and earned her third Google Cloud Academic All-America honor last season.
Seven of the 14 honorees return to the Oklahoma State roster this season. For more information on them and the rest of the current Cowgirls, follow the team on Twitter (@CowgirlSB), Facebook (Cowgirl Softball) and Instagram (osusoftball).
