Cowboys Meet With Media After Practice
October 23, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team met with media following practice Tuesday to discuss the upcoming matchup with Texas Saturday night. Some of their comments:
Defensive Tackle Enoch Smith Jr.
On the throwback uniforms:
"They are pretty dope. For the first time yesterday morning, everyone was talking about them. I looked at them and was, 'Wow'. It's pretty neat."
On the Texas offense:
"Very explosive and athletic offense. The quarterback has play-making abilities. They have nice receivers. We just have to capitalize and look at their weakness to do what we need to do to come out with a victory."
On the bye week:
"I feel like the bye week was much needed for everybody, especially myself included. It was nice to get back and see family, but now we are back here. It's time to work and move on to the next five games."
Offensive Lineman Johnny Wilson
On the bye week:
"I think it was really good. Nice little break. It's always nice to have a bye week. Got a bunch of little things fixed over the break. Had a practice on Sunday which was a really good practice. Just had a chance to relax, let everything settle down and come back to work."
On if the offensive line has been frustrated:
"I wouldn't say it's frustrating because I know all of our guys are giving 100 percent. I would be frustrated if I knew someone that wasn't giving 100 percent. I know it's stuff that we can fix so I'm not frustrated but I'm eager for when we all get it clicking, turn it around and show everyone what we can do. I know we are better than what we are playing at. It's a bunch of little things happening here and there. I've said that the past two or three weeks. We finally got it fixed on Sunday and we had a really good practice today. I think this week is going to be fun, Homecoming and everything."
Defensive End Jordan Brailford
On wearing the throwback uniforms this week:
"They're nice. I already have what I'm doing with it. I can't say, but just know it's going to be clean."
On the possibility of different Texas quarterbacks playing:
"We played against their starting quarterback last season. We kind of know what to expect (from him). We've been going through his tendencies. We're expecting him to play, so we're practicing to play him."
On Coach Knowles' message through the week:
"He told us to play for each other. We have a chance to make something special happen this weekend and if we do everything right, we might very well do that."
On what the team gained from the open week:
"I think some guys got a lot healthier. Guys were out here flying around a lot more. People look a lot more fresh than they did last week, so that helps a lot."
On what the defense has focused on in preparation:
"The dual-threat quarterback. He likes to pull it down and run a lot. They have a nice tight end that they use in a lot of different ways. We have seen some trick plays that they like to utilize once they pass a certain point on the field. We've been preparing for each of these to be ready for this game."
Defensive End Jarrell Owens
On the Texas offense:
"They are really physical up front and they run the ball pretty hard. If we can stop the run then we will be able to compete."
On the Texas quarterback run game:
"They tend to draw the ball and run so it is important for us to keep them contained in the pocket."
On the throwback uniforms:
"They are real sweet. I can't wait to put them on."
Wide Receiver Dillon Stoner
On how the bye week went:
"We got a good couple of practices in and then we were able to get the rest of the week off on Thursday, so it was good to rest up and go home for a while."
On practice so far this week and workouts:
"We had a nice workout this morning, a good long practice today. I think everyone has a good attitude and we're excited to play Texas on Saturday."
On the throwback uniforms:
"They are pretty sweet. I just saw a picture of them the other day but I am excited to wear them. He was the reason I wore 21 growing up and in high school so it is really cool."
On what made him look up to Barry Sanders growing up:
"Starting football I wasn't really sure where I wanted to play, but he was my favorite player growing up. I wore the number, really liked it. I loved the way he played and the way he carried himself and I just continued to wear it all the way through."
Running Back Justice Hill
On memories playing against Texas:
"We've played some pretty good games since I've been here. My freshman year and last year were both pretty good games, especially last year with the overtime. We're looking forward to this game."
On the Texas defense:
"They have some great players. It's going to be a good matchup."
On Saturday being Homecoming:
"I know the game will have a special atmosphere because it's going to be night time and everyone will be out there excited. It's going to be a good time."
On the 1988 throwback uniforms:
"They're nice. They're going to be a good fit. They're a nice little touch."
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On the bye week and getting prepared for Texas:
"I thought last week was a good week for us. We got a lot of work in, and at the same time got a nice break."
On what he has been with from the Texas defense:
"Just their physicality. They have a bunch of big guys and play with a lot of speed. They're trying to rough you up."
On Saturday being Homecoming:
"We treat every game the same and try not to buy into what's going on outside of the football game itself."
