Blanco Reaches ITA Regional Semifinals

IOWA CITY, Iowa–Cowgirl Sofia Blanco is moving on to the semifinals round of play after defeating Wichita State's Sandra Honigova in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. The Cowgirl has gone 4-0 through singles play at the tournament, also reaching the semifinals bout in doubles play.
Earlier in the day, Blanco and doubles partner Lisa Marie Rioux topped Minnesota's Caitlyn Merzbacher and Tiffany Huber, 8-4 to advance to the semifinals where they fell to Tulsa's Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner, in a hard-fought 6-7, (10-8), 6-3 match.
Freshman Catherine Gulihur picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win over Kansas' Julia Deming in consolation play, and Rioux fell to KU's Janet Koch, 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Blanco looks to avenge her teammate's loss when she squares off with Koch tomorrow in the semifinals.
