January 17, 2018 | Cowgirl Equestrian
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State was the only Big 12 team ranked inside the top 10 for every event in the first set of NCEA Event Rankings for collegiate equestrian, as determined by the NCEA selection committee.
Â
The best ranking for the Cowgirls came in Reining, where they earned the No. 3 spot. In their five meets, the Reining team holds a 3-2 record. A Cowgirl rider has taken home an MOP in reining in four of the team's five meets.
Â
Stephanie Helsen and Ebba Lange each have one MOP, and Julia Purus has received the MOP honor twice this season.
Â
The next highest ranking came in Horsemanship, where the Cowgirls received the No. 4 spot. The Cowgirls have gone 4-1 in Horsemanship so far this season and have had several standout riders. Leading the way was Harley Huff. The freshman went 4-0-1 with three MOP honors.
Â
Seniors Libby Collins and Paige Kemper enjoyed much success in the fall as well. Collins posted an impressive 4-1 record, while Kemper stayed perfect at 3-0.
Â
The Equitation over Fences squad wasn't far behind Horsemanship. The Cowgirls came in at No. 5 in Equitation Over Fences. Abigail Brayman excelled in her first year of collegiate competition. She posted a 3-0 record with two MOP honors.
Â
Hannah Janson also had an impressive fall season. She had three wins and received an MOP in the team's upset win over Texas A&M.
Â
The Cowgirls rounded off their top-10 rankings with Equitation on the Flat coming in at No. 7. Senior Maggie Drysch led the way with three victories in the event. She took home an MOP and so did fellow senior Carly Barrick.
Â
These rankings come after the NCEA Board of Directors approved a change to the championship format which includes four event titles that will be included in the April 2018 NCEA National Championship. The event titles will be determined through a head-to-head bracket format in each of the four events that comprise a head-to-head in-season meet.Â
Â
The event rankings are determined by the NCEA selection committee and are released prior to the national championship. The final set of rankings will be used to seed teams for the event title competitions in Waco, TX.Â
